Construction, Design & Playability
Construction
Each Ott Custom Cue is meticulously constructed to tight tolerances to ensure durability and a solid feel. Joint collars, butt caps and ferrules are tapped and threaded on the cue. Solid forearms, handles and butt sleeves are cored for additional stability. Laminated Maple, Jatoba, Purpleheart, and Granadillo are most often used for cores and are chosen for each individual cue based on weight and the desired resonance. Pointed forearms are generally not cored in order to preserve the natural resonance of the chosen wood. We believe the subtle differences in feel between, say, an Ebony nose and one of East Indian Rosewood are part of what makes each cue unique and special.
Design
Our cues are influenced by a number of classic designs. We combine these classic design elements with unique color, grain and texture combinations that are distinctive, yet remain elegant and tasteful.
Playability
Although we go to great lengths to create a cue that is pleasing to the eye, we are pool players, first and foremost. We intend for our cues to be played with, and we construct them to perform. Our cues have a slight forward balance that feels very natural at the table. Our shafts have a modified Pro Taper and short ferrule combination developed over 2 years of testing to produce a classic medium-firm hit while retaining excellent deflection characteristics. We’re confident you’ll find no finer playing cue than an Ott Custom Cue.
